Left-handed barber scissors: what suppliers should know

Left-handed stylists are a loyal customer group, because many suppliers do not stock proper left-hand scissors. Offering them sets a range apart.
Why a right-hand scissor fails in the left hand
When a right-hand scissor is used in the left hand, the natural squeeze of the hand pushes the blades apart instead of together. The cut becomes ragged, and the stylist has to twist the wrist to compensate, which is tiring.
What makes a true left-hand scissor
A true left-hand scissor is a mirror image: the blades are reversed so the top blade sits on the other side, and the handle shape is mirrored. Simply flipping finger rings or adding a finger rest on the other side does not make a right-hand scissor work for a left-handed cutter.
What to stock
- Left-hand versions of your best-selling cutting scissor
- A left-hand thinning scissor
- Clear labelling, so left-hand stock is not sold to right-handed customers by mistake
Because volumes are smaller, many suppliers carry left-hand models in their two or three most popular sizes rather than the full size range.
Our barber, thinning and pet grooming scissors include left-hand barber scissors and left-hand thinning scissors.
