Scissor finishes explained: mirror, matt, coloured and paper-coated

Finish is the first thing a customer notices. It does not change how a scissor cuts, but it changes how the product is seen and priced.
Mirror (bright) finish
A high polish that looks premium in photos and on the shelf. It shows fingerprints and fine scratches more easily, so packaging that protects the surface matters.
Matt and satin finishes
A softer, non-reflective look that hides fingerprints and light scratches well. Popular for professional tools that are used every day.
Sand-blasted finish
A textured matt finish with a slightly rough feel. It can improve grip and gives a distinctive look, often used on handles or in combination with polished blades.
Coloured coatings
Coloured and titanium-style coatings, such as black, gold, rainbow or pastel tones, help a brand stand out, especially in beauty retail. Coatings on the working edge wear with use, so many designs keep the cutting edge uncoated.
Paper-coated finish
A printed pattern layer on the handle and blade body, used for distinctive retail designs at an accessible price.
Choosing finishes
Finish should match the tier and the customer: matt or satin for working professionals, mirror for premium, and colour or patterns for retail and gift ranges. Steel and edge still decide how well the scissor cuts.
