Economy vs professional barber scissors: building price tiers

A range with clear price tiers is easier to sell: each customer can see why one scissor costs more than another. Most successful barber ranges use three tiers.
Tier 1: training and economy
For students, training kits and price-led retail. Typical features: plastic or simple handles, practical steel such as 410C, a bevel edge and simple packaging. The aim is reliable cutting at the lowest price.
Tier 2: everyday professional
For working barbers and stylists. Typical features: 420C steel, offset or opposing handles, adjustable tension screw, finger rest and a protective case. This tier usually sells the most.
Tier 3: premium
For experienced stylists who cut all day. Typical features: harder steel such as 440C, sharper edges, swivel or crane handles, decorative designs and a premium case. Our guide to 410C, 420C and 440C steel explains how steel grade affects edge life and price.
Keep the tiers clearly different
- Change more than one thing between tiers: steel, edge, handle and packaging together.
- Keep sizes and handle designs consistent across tiers where possible, so customers can trade up.
- Use packaging to signal the tier: a pouch for economy, a hard case for premium.
Tell us your target price points and we can suggest models for each tier from our barber, thinning and pet grooming scissors.
