Pet grooming scissors: straight, curved and chunkers

Dog groomers use a different mix of scissors from barbers. If you supply grooming salons or pet retailers, this is the core range.

Straight scissors

The main tool for body work and straight lines. Groomers often prefer longer blades than hairdressers, commonly 7 to 8.5 inches, to cover larger areas evenly.

Curved scissors

Curved blades follow round shapes such as heads, feet and tails without leaving steps in the coat. Most groomers own at least one curved scissor.

Thinning scissors

Fine-toothed thinners blend lines and soften the finish, the same principle as in barbering.

Chunkers

Chunkers have wide, widely spaced teeth. They remove more coat per cut and leave a natural, textured finish, which makes them popular for finishing and for groomers who want speed.

Safety and comfort

Rounded or ball tips reduce the risk of nicking the animal around the face and paws. Because groomers cut for long hours, offset handles and finger rests matter as much as in barbering.

Building a range

A practical pet range includes a long straight, a curved, a thinner and a chunker, sold individually and as a kit. See our barber, thinning and pet grooming scissors, which include pet scissors and pet thinning scissors.
