Building a Barber Shop Starter Kit

Barber students and new shop owners often want to buy everything they need in one go. A well-planned starter kit makes that easy and gives you a product with a clear price point and a clear buyer.
Who buys starter kits?
The main buyers are barber schools, apprentices, and owners opening their first shop. Schools often order the same kit for a whole class, so a consistent, repeatable kit is valuable.
Core cutting tools
- A straight barber scissor, usually around 6 to 7 inches for scissor-over-comb work
- A thinning or texturising scissor
- A shavette with a supply of blades
Combs and sectioning
- A barber comb and a cutting comb
- Sectioning clips
- A neck brush
Shaving and finishing
- A shaving brush and bowl
- A water spray bottle
- A cape or neck strips, if the kit is for shop use
Care and storage
Include a small bottle of scissor oil, a cleaning cloth and a case or roll that holds every tool. A good case is what makes the kit feel like a professional set rather than a bundle of separate items.
Planning kit tiers
Many suppliers offer two or three versions: a student kit with economy tools, a professional kit with better steel and finishes, and a premium kit with a convex-edge scissor. Keeping the same case design across tiers keeps the range simple. For private-label kits, logos can be added to tools and cases.
Common questions
What size scissor is best for a starter kit?
Many kits use a 6 to 7 inch straight scissor, which suits scissor-over-comb work. Smaller sizes suit detail work.
Can a starter kit be customised?
Yes. Contents, case and branding can be chosen to suit a school or a shop.
